about

I’m Abigail Edge – an award-winning journalist and features writer whose journalism has appeared in The Guardian, Vice, The Week, The Independent, and many other publications.
In 2020, I co-founded The Society of Freelance Journalists in response to the pandemic’s devastating impact on self-employed writers and journalists. The society now has more than 2,000 media members worldwide, is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) and an official partner of The European Journalism Centre. We also contributed to a House of Lords report on the future of UK Journalism, which you can read here.
Before going freelance I spent several years as a local news reporter, led social media strategy for BBC Politics and was a Google News Initiative teaching fellow. I also spent a few years living in Denver, Colorado, where I learned to ski, discovered a love of craft beer and wrote about immigration activism, weird festivals and feats of survival. I am an awardee of the Guardian’s Scott Trust Bursary and an alumna of City University’s Journalism School.
Nowadays, I write about politics, culture, and the internet and am working on a book about coercive control. I am also available for digital media consulting and public speaking (see my LinkedIn for details). I teach MA Journalism at Falmouth University and am a visiting journalism lecturer at City, University of London. I live in Birmingham, UK, with a ginger rescue cat named Dylan.
